Claire Crowther reviews Cantilena – one book in four spans by John Peck (Shearsman Books, 2016).
‘The poem is 324 pages long, each page is a canto heavy with text, there is unremitting intellectual depth, and it needs much rereading. If you read it, your exhaustion might be rewarded with a sort of masochistic joy,’ she writes.
And Lucy Sheerman discusses the long poem in Jennifer Moxley’s The Open Secret (Flood Editions), writing: ‘The long poem “Coastal” is breathtaking in its scope and its complex measuring of the relationship between ideas and politics and the lived experience of them.’
